Huge ‘noise and dust wall’ cuts building site disturbance

Protecting residents and local businesses from noise and dust on construction sites is always challenging. But it’s much easier when you have 27 TITAN containers arranged as a ‘Noise and Dust Wall’ – as Danish client 5E Byg discovered.
The challenge
When 5E Byg A/S started a new urban development project adjacent to a residential area in Køge, they faced a significant challenge: how to comply with municipal noise pollution standards and shield residents from the sounds of their construction activities?
Traditional methods of noise shielding proved to be prohibitively expensive and unwieldy. But with heavy equipment generating more than 130 decibels – far higher than the government’s recommended limit of 75 decibels – a viable solution had to be found.
We proposed building one of our increasingly popular ‘Noise and Dust Walls’: an arrangement of containers that would not only dampen construction site din but also offer residents some protection against dust.
The solution
Recognising the urgent need for noise shielding in particular, TITAN and 5E Byg A/S started exploring potential solutions.
We knew from previous engagements that our Noise and Dust Walls were effective and could be rapidly deployed, but just how many would 5E Byg need?
Together with a team of 5E Byg engineers involved in the construction project, we calculated that 27 x 40-foot containers would do the job.
The delivery
One of the best things about our Noise and Dust Walls is the speed with which they can be created. Like giant LEGO bricks, our containers can be lined up and stacked in no time. Our highly skilled drivers were able to create 5E Byg’s wall in a single day.
It was exactly the cost-effective and efficient solution the client needed.
The results
What could have been an urban cacophony from the construction site was now subdued thanks to TITAN’s innovative Noise and Dust Wall.
As one resident from the nearby area noted: “Having construction close to your home can initially seem threatening, but the 5E Byg team has been incredibly informative. The noise (and dust) wall they placed to protect and enclose their construction site was a brilliant move. Although we could still hear the machinery during heavy work to some extent, enclosing the construction site was an excellent idea to minimise noise and dust and protect those of us living nearby.
One thing 5E Byg appreciated in particular was the incredible flexibility of our Noise and Dust Walls. Compared to alternative noise-reduction options, such as Hoffmann blocks (expensive, difficult to reposition, and requiring several days to install), we could swiftly deliver a crane and change the wall’s configuration as and when needed.
For example, when the client required direct access to the construction site without heavy trucks having to navigate through a residential area, we simply moved an end wall.
